LA QUINTA - Desert Blood Services, the regional collaboration announced earlier this year between Community Blood Bank (operated by United Blood Services) and LifeStream, commences operations Monday, June 4.

Desert Blood Services will provide blood products and services for Desert Regional Medical Center, Eisenhower Medical Center, JFK Memorial Hospital, Hi-Desert Medical Center, Palo Verde Hospital and Bush Naval Hospital in Twentynine Palms.

"The creation of Desert Blood Services and its objective moving forward is to create a stronger community blood program," said Frederick B. Axelrod, M.D, president and CEO of LifeStream.

"This partnership combines our respective resources and capabilities while streamlining operations to better serve local hospital patients," said Pat McEvoy, president, blood services division, United Blood Services.

Desert Blood Services will be headquartered at the Desert Blood Services Donor Center, 79-215 Corporate Centre Drive, La Quinta.

Donor center hours are:
·     For whole-blood collection: Noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. No whole-blood collection on Sundays.
·    For apheresis collection:  11:40 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 6:40 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Apheresis collection on Sundays by appointment only.
