Coachella Valley Kids Win at North American Robotics Championship
PALM DESERT - Seven Coachella Valley area kids win big at the North American Robotics Championship. More than 600 robotics students from across the US, Mexico, Canada, and Puerto Rico with one guest team from Spain, converged at Legoland in Carlsbad last month for the 2nd Annual FIRST LEGO League Open North American Championship.
The excited X-Treme Team has collectively volunteered more than 2,000 hours to help teach, mentor and promote science, technology, engineering, math and robotics programs across five counties.
One team comprised of seven students from the Coachella Valley known as X-Treme Team, a fiery group of 10-, 11-, and 12-year-olds, rose above the rest and was awarded the prestigious Inspiration Award. These seven students were originally part of Reagan Elementary's after school robotics program run by volunteer mom Liberty Naud. They now hail from four different schools across the valley.
