Demolition of the Old Coachella Valley Rescue Mission
PALM DESERT - Out with the old and in with the new Monday at the site of the old Coachella Valley Rescue Mission in Indio.
The building that housed the valley's homeless for more than 40 years was demolished.
Executive Director Darla Burkett took the first swing with the wrecking ball followed by employee Mark McGowan, who took a sledgehammer to the building.
In 1971, a group of concerned businessmen and churches came together to form the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission on Van Buren Blvd.
