Palm Desert Teen Dies During Water Polo Practice
Family and friends are mourning the loss of a 16-year-old Palm Desert High School student who died during water polo practice.
16-year-old Christian Fernandez Morales died Tuesday night after he became unconscious during water polo practice.
His tragic death has many people in shock.
Christian Morales was practicing water polo at Shadow Hills High School when he became unconscious.
He died at the hospital at 10:30pm.
"It's a tragedy because every kid is an untold story," said a parent of a Palm Desert High School student, Jacob Shefa.
Morales was practicing with a summer league through USA Water Polo.
Another parent of a Palm Desert High School student told me Christian was a great kid and a talented water polo player.
We've looked on Facebook and found many posts by family and friends about Christian Morales, they are mourning his loss and remembering what a great person he was.
Friends are posting that he was an awesome person, and sending out prayers to the family.
Shefa, who is also an educational consultant said, "During the times, the 15 years I've worked with students, I've lost some students as well and just the ripple of trying to empathize with their parents and their peers, and I think particularly for young people when they lose, it is a lot of times the first loss of a really close friend, and I think those kids really need support as well."
Parents of Palm Desert High school students are saddened by the tragedy.
"My sympathy goes out to the parents, its just really really tragic," said Shefa.
The cause of death has not yet been released.
