CATHEDRAL CITY - The Palm Springs Elks Lodge holds a ceremony every year on Flag Day.
For the fourth year, they brought their patriotic show to Cathedral City.
Old Glory gently billows in the breeze as the Elks Lodge honors Flag Day.
"We are so geared towards Americanism, and our veterans that serve in our military, and its an important day to recognize what our flag stands for," said Kim Clark, the Palm Springs Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler.
We asked other people what the star spangled banner means to them.
"It means that we're American, I'm sure if you go to where we live I would say that 90 percent of the people present the flag up, its something that we need to give to our youth," said Nelly Siddell with the Palm Springs Elks Lodge.
And these youth helped honor the stars and stripes, The La Quinta Boys and Girls Club Band, and the Cathedral City High School ROTC cadets.
Parents brought their kids to salute the American flag.
"Celebrate Flag Day, schools out, and they really don't get another opportunity to celebrate and to see what it's all about, see about our history," said Cathedral City resident, Steve Damashek with children Beatrix, Linsy and Alice.
And these children learned something new with the old red, white and blue.
"I thought the most interesting part is how our colonies came together and to make our flag," said Beatrix.
The eight flags that have been used by the United States in the past 235 years were presented one by one.
And hand over heart, the ceremony ended with our pledge.
Flag Day was established by President Woodrow Wilson back in 1916.
