NEW DETAILS: I-15 Reopen at California-Nevada State Line
LAS VEGAS (AP and Staff Report) - A major road closure along Interstate 15 near the California-Nevada state line is now over, according to a Caltrans Spokesperson. All lanes in both directions are now flowing and reopen.
Lanes in both directions were closed for several hours after an overturned truck began leaking Ferric Chloride in the median on southbound I-15 at Yates Well Road just south of the Nevada State Line. Nevada State Troopers issued road closures during the cleanup.
Right before the last closure was lifted the traffic was backed up at least 11 miles along the northbound lanes and the delay was estimated to be at least two hours.
California Highway Patrol Trooper Adam Croxton says late Friday afternoon that cleanup of the collision will continue for at least four hours and drivers can still expect traffic backups for miles in both directions. A hazardous materials team is cleaning up 3,000 gallons of corrosive ferric chloride and a small amount of diesel fuel in the center median. The truck collided with car a little before 6:30 a.m. Friday. No one was hurt in the crash or from the spill. The interstate is a major route between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
