Copper Theft at Rancho Mirage Library

RANCHO MIRAGE - Rancho Mirage police are looking for whoever stole hundreds of dollars worth of copper from the Rancho Mirage Public Library.

 
The thefts happened between 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Monday. 
 
A volunteer arrived Monday morning and saw that 15 sheets of copper used to decorate the building were missing. 
 
The sheets are 22 by 44 inches and were made to curve with the exterior of the wall where they were mounted. 
 
The value of the stolen copper - around $600. Authorities are looking to see if someone has tried to sell the metal to valley scrap dealers. 
 
Back in march of last year, someone stole a 220 pound bronze statue from outside the library. It was later replaced. No arrests were ever made in that case.
