PALM DESERT - You know to be suspicious of counterfeit purses, even counterfeit cash, but counterfeit food? Experts are sounding the alarm about this growing threat in the US and beyond.
When you fall victim to this crime, not only are you not getting what you paid for, but you could be putting your life in danger. From methanol-laced alcohol to watered-down milk spiked with melamine, counterfeit foods and ingredients are a huge problem for investigators who admit it’s tough to keep up with the criminals behind these scams.
Investigators say tomato fraud is on the rise. Criminals are trying to pass household tomatoes off as the more expensive heirloom varieties. Consumer beware!
