PALM SPRINGS--Shots rang out early Wednesday morning in Palm Springs sending one man to the hospital. Now the search is on to find the suspect wanted for attempted murder.

The shooting happened around 5:30 Wednesday morning at the Andalucia Apartments on South Sunrise Way.

"This morning I heard somebody screaming like somebody was hurting them, and I knew something was wrong but i didn't really think much of it until they knocked on our door," Cynthia Garcia, a resident at the Andalucia Apartments said.

What she heard was a man being shot in the chest. A rude awakening for Garcia and her family who just moved into the complex Tuesday.

8 people were evacuated as the S.W.A.T. team canvased the complex.

"They were out with their guns at that other exit there and told me to go back inside the building for my own safety," said resident Mike Phillips. "I was just really shocked to find out that someone had been shot right here."

Police say the suspect is 32-year-old Mario Abelon. He's 5' 5" and weighs 175 pounds.

Abelon is still on the loose and is considered armed and dangerous. He was last seen wearing a white tank top and dark shorts.

Police say Abelon lives in the apartment complex but they were unable to find him.

Cynthia Garcia and other evacuees returned home a few hours later, only to find a blood stained drive-way.

"It makes me think about where I moved," Garcia said. "The lady was telling me yesterday it's really safe and there's no problems and this happens and I don't know."

The victim is in serious condition but is expected to survive.
