PALM SPRINGS - There will be no charges filed against an 87-year-old Palm Springs man suspected of assisting in the death of his wife. The Riverside County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday its decision to not file criminal charges.

William Bentinck was arrested Monday at a home in the 2500 block of La Condesa Drive in Palm Springs. Bentinck was booked on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of his 77-year-old wife.

The decision to not file charges against Bentinck was based on a lack of evidence against him, according to the District Attorney's spokesman John Hall.

Palm Springs Police were called to the residence after a report of a possible unattended death by the Riverside County Coroner's Office. Investigators questioned Bentinck and two hospice nurses, and found Bentinck's wife dead inside the home. Bentinck was released from jail Thursday.

The exact cause of the woman's death has not yet been released by the county coroner's office.
