Storm Watch: Flash Flooding Threat In Coachella Valley
PALM DESERT - A flash flood watch is in effect through Friday evening for the San Bernardino Mountains, the Riverside County mountains and deserts, including the Coachella Valley.
The storm front includes scattered thunderstorms over all the mountains, deserts and inland empire, according to the National Weather Service.
Thunderstorms late Thursday and early Friday produced heavy rainfal with amounts between two thirds of an inch to more than two inches in a short period of time. The thunderstorms Friday evening are also capable of producing similar or greater amounts of heavy rain, possibly leading to excessive runoff and rapid filling and overflowing of normally dry creeks and streams. The flash flood watch remains in effect until 11 p.m. Friday. Potential impacts include flash flooding and minor debris flows in small creeks and streams, roadway intersections and other low-lying or poorly drained areas. Excessive runoff can produce flash flooding far downstream of the heaviest rainfall. A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
