Hundreds of Hopefuls Line Up for Liberace
PALM SPRINGS--An open casting call to be part of a major hollywood film about famed pianist Liberace is drawing hundreds to Palm Springs.
It was day two of auditions for a background role in the HBO biopic, "Behind the Candelabra."
"We want to be on the show so we figured we might have as good a chance as the next person," said Bill Wellen who waited in line with his dog Henry to audition for the movie.
"I saw it on the news and i thought, hey why not? I've always loved acting and singing and I thought I would just like to try it," said hollywood hopeful, Elizabeth Young.
Hundreds of people got ready for their close up and lined up for a chance to be part of a hollywood legend's life and legacy.
"My parents loved him and his playing was just wonderful," Cheryl Wellen said.
Liberace lived in Palm Springs. He also died in Palm Springs in 1987 from complications with AIDs.
Behind the Candelabra stars Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as Liberace's long-time companion.
"It's reminiscing about his music and his piano and what he did for the music industry," said Michael Wolfes, who waited in line for a chance to be a part of the film.
"Well I remember him as a child watching him on television and that's kind of exciting because I sort of know his character, his life. Other than that I'm sort of more interested in participating in the hollywood thing," said Barry Bieda, who was last in line for the auditions.
Filming in Palm Springs starts August 20th. Hollywood hopefuls tell us the production will only be in Palm Springs for 2 days before heading to Las Vegas.
