SAVE-A-PET, SAVING LIVES
DESERT HOT SPRINGS- A litter of puppies left for dead in the desert's hot sun are now bigger and stronger than ever. Save-A-Pet in Desert Hot Springs is giving the puppies and nearly 70 other dogs a second shot at life.
"When one of my babies goes into its new forever home, I feel enlightened, I feel happy," said Kennel Manager Stacey Lawler.
The puppies will be neutered and spayed in the next few days and ready for adoption on Friday. Adoption is on a first come, first serve basis.
"The sooner we can get these sweet things adopted, the sooner we can rescue some more," said Lawler.
Kennel Manager Stacey Lawler says nothing will keep her from rescuing dogs, no matter how old or how broken they are. After all, they rescued her.
Seven years ago, laid off from her job, she found herself in a deep depression. She started volunteering at Save-A-Pet while she looked for work. It turned into a full time job.
"This is my life, I truly believe that I was blessed by loosing my job because if it weren't for that, I would not have ended up here," said Lawler.
Now she's nursing back to health puppies and senior dogs alike. Saving pets, Lawler says, in turn, saved her life.
"I want to do this for the rest of my life," said Lawler.
