CATHEDRAL CITY- A family in Cathedral City is looking for answers tonight after two people invaded their home. The owners were inside the home when the people barged in Saturday afternoon.

Carolina Zaragoza recalls the frantic scene when she and her husband ignore a knock on the front door, moments later two strangers are in their home.

"One of them, she screamed too, like 'oh my god, oh my god,' like they didn't expect to see us here," said Zaragoza.

Cathedral City police are now looking for at least three suspects, two men and one woman. The homeowner says the intruders took off after seeing her. They fled in two seperate cars, one white and one silver.

"There was moments when my heart...I feel something heavy, heavy on my chest. And I know that I am afraid," said Zaragoza.

Neighbors living near San Ardo Ave and McMcallum Way, where the invasion took place, say there have been a rash of burglaries in recent months. They say they've seen strangers on the street, staking out homes ready to rob them when no one is there.

"I think it's because they are laying people off from the police department," said Zaragoza.

Within the last week, Cathedral City police and the mayor have denied any connection between recent police layoffs and increased crime. Several neighbors KMIR6 talked to disagree.

"They spend money on other things that I think are not useful and this to protect your community is. I want to make sure my family is safe," said Alice Gomez, a neighbor on San Ardo street.

"I expect somebody to come and help me. I need more answers. I need to know that there is somebody to take care of us," said Zaragoza.
