Police Search for Killer in Desert Hot Springs
DESERT HOT SPRINGS--Officers search for a killer in Desert Hot Springs, after 49-year-old Anthony Leazure was found dead late Sunday night outside his home on Upland Way.
"The police showed up because somebody over there had chest pains and everything and ended up dying,"said Edward Collins who lives across the street.
Neighbors say Leazure often caused trouble in the apartment complex and was known to ask for money outside the Save-A-Lot store down the street.
"Most of the people around here are very nice people, so when something like that does happen it's very rare," Collins said.
"I don't know how they stay here and let all the criminal action happen," said Desert Hot Springs Resident Joseph Gallegos. "It's kind of scary."
Police say they've received calls for service from Leazure before Sunday night.
Neighbors tell KMIR6 News the cops were even at Leazure's apartment about 30 minutes before they were called back and found him dead.
"It appears that an altercation took place and through our investigation it appears that they knew each other," Detective Jim Henson from the Desert Hot Springs Police Department said. "There was no gang activity. It just seems like it may have started with an argument and led to his death."
Investigators say Leazure died from stab wounds to his upper torso.
