COACHELLA - Community leaders helped break ground Wednesday morning on a city-wide safety project intended to help children arrive safely at school.
Sidewalk construction is underway near the intersection of Morgan St. and Valley Road in front of Valley View Elementary School. It's all part of the Coachella Safe Routes to School Program. The curent project will add new sidewalks to areas in need and improve existing sidewalks near schools.
Since 2008, Coachella hasn secured more than $2 million in grants to complete more than 75 projects to improve pedestrian safety.
