THOUSAND PALMS - Residents in a Thousand Palms neighborhood on Robert Road say nothing is being done about cars speeding and they don't know where to turn. KMIR6 investigates who's responsible for keeping the roads safe there.

"I've been out here with my children and people just cross the street like crazy they don't even consider the stop sign whatsoever, and I think that's very very dangerous," said Veronica Castro, who lives on Robert Road.

Glenn Kippel has lived on the street for more than 20 years, and he says he's calculated that cars are driving 20 to 30 MPH above the speed limit.

"I've called the Sheriff's Department several times and they don't really do much. I call the Highway Patrol and they say thank you very much and that's the end of that," said Kippel.

It turns out CHP is responsible for enforcing traffic laws in the area, but but they admit enforcement is down when the school on the street is not in session.

CHP only has one officer for the area who responds to complaints and where that officer goes depends on the number of complaints.
