PALM DESERT - Two men are in police custody following a short pursuit late Thursday morning along Highway 111 and other busy side streets through Palm Desert, including El Paseo. Fortunately no injuries were reported.

Riverside County Sheriff's Deputies arrested two men following a short car and foot chase. The pursuit began on the east side of Palm Desert, near the area of Washington Street and Avenue of the States, near La Quinta, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Alberto Martinez. Deputies were investigating two reports shortly after 11 a.m., one of a minor crash near Michigan Drive and Idaho and the other was a report of shots fired two minutes later near Washington and Avenue of the States.

Deputies located a suspect vehicle in the area of Washington and Avenue of the States. The driver failed to stop when deputies attempted to stop the vehicle.

The chase ended about five minutes later when the vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot of the Fairfield Inn off of Highway 111, just west of the Westfield Mall. The driver remained in the vehicle and was taken into custody. A passenger in the suspect vehicle fled on foot into a nearby wash where deputies followed and eventually took him into custody without incident.

The two men face charges related to evading police officers and could face other charges pending further investigation.
