Planned Power Outage Postponed
PALM DESERT-- Our newsroom was flooded with emails and calls over Southern California Edison's announcement to conduct an eight hour planned power outage this Friday.
The KMIR6 viewers we spoke with were looking for answers as to why this planned outage would be scheduled on one of the hottest days of the year. Many wrote in that it was downright dangerous.
But after questioning Edison, the outage is now being postponed. And even though local residents say they're happy about that, they also say they're disappointed with Edison's customer service.
"One response from the customer service guys was very indifferent. When I called Edison, he said to go to a cooling center, and we'll tell you where one is, as if it's really easy to sit somewhere for 8 hours on a card table chair," says Bennett Simon of Palm Desert. Edison says the reason they schedule these planned outages is to improve the system and reduce the duration of power outages. As far as the scheduled planned outage on August 14th, we're still waiting to hear if that's postponed.
