INDIO - Residents from across the Coachella Valley are coming together for weekly walks, preparing themselves for a big hike up the Tram Road in Palm Springs.

They'll be slipping on their walking shoes and hope you will too as a way to get ready for a big charity walk coming up in October.

KMIR6, the Desert Sun, Klein Clark Sports and the United Way invite you to join hundreds of walkers, including local celebrities and community leaders, for weekly morning walks -- every Saturday beginning July 28th through October 27th when everyone will gather for the 27th Annual Tram Road Challenge in Palm Springs.

Proceeds from the event benefit the United Way of the Desert. The Saturday walks will take place in different communities and locations each weekend. We'll let you know every Friday where they're happening.

For a complete schedule of other participating celebrities and locations of walks, log on to www.facebook.com/PSMakeADifferenceDay and "like" the page.

The weekly walks culminate with the 6K Tram Road Challenge, planned for 7 a.m. Oct. 27. Registration is $30 for runners/walkers 15 to 59 years old and $25 for participants 14 and under and 60 and older. Age divisions are in five-year increments, and all taking part will receive medals at the end the race.
