DESERT HOT SPRINGS- A Desert Hot Springs family wants the city to fix their street, after Wednesday's heavy rains sent water rushing into their home, on the corner Third Street and Mesquite.

Martin Serrano has lived with his family in the house for the last decade. But he says the flooding only started two years ago after the city did work on the street. He says it has happened six times. Serrano and his wife Alejandra Serrano say they even told the city about it.

"We sent an email after that with pictures and everything and we have no response yet, and now I have this problem," said Alejandra Serrano.

The city official in charge of the streets said the city isn't to blame. He said the city doesn't have the funds to add a gutter or sidewalk on the street. He also blamed the home's construction for the problem, saying the house has always been below street level.

"They told me that this problem always existed. I told them that it didn't," said Martin Serrano.

The city now says they will be fixing the street. Construction will start Monday. They will add a barrier to help prevent flooding in the future.
