Remains Of Iconic Rancho Mirage Restaurant To Be Demolished
RANCHO MIRAGE - There are new signs that the owner of the land on which the fire-damaged GG's Island Restaurant sits is looking to tear down the burned out building.
The Rancho Mirage building department has fielded several visits from demolition companies recently, says Rancho Mirage City Manager Randal K. Bynder.
"Our hope is that the property owner is finally moving forward on removing what is an eyesore and sad remains of a once iconic commercial structure," Bynder tells KMIR6 News.
Rancho Mirage Mayor Scott Hines says city leaders were told the property owner, John Wessman, intends to pull a demolition permit this week.
The once iconic building sustained millions of dollars in damage back in January during a fire.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been released by fire investigators.
