Full Freeway Closure Due To High Winds, Downed Power Lines
CATHEDRAL CITY - High winds knocked down trees and power lines last Sunday forcing a full freeway closure at Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City.
Downed power lines stretched across a section of Interstate 10, according to the California Highway Patrol. Both directions of the freeway were closed between Palm Drive and Date Palm Drive due to live power lines being down across the freeway, reported CHP spokesman, Officer Joe Zagorski.
Southern California Edison is responding with crews to remove the power lines, Zagorski added.
All Eastbound traffic is being routed off of the freeway at Palm Drive and all Westbound traffic is being routed off at Date Palm Drive. Traffic is using Varner Road from Palm Drive to Date Palm Drive as a detour.
Edison has not provided an estimated time for the lines to be cleared. Motorists should avoid the freeway if possible or expect delays.
