Severe Storm Prompts Evacuations and Road Closures

MECCA- A severe thunderstorm stalled over the East Valley this morning, causing severe flooding that damaged homes and prompted evacuations at several mobile home parks.
"We had a weather cell come over the community unleashed in proportions we have never seen before in years," said Cal Fire Captain Scott Visyak.
Now residents are left to deal with the mess left behind. The rain slammed the Duroville mobile home park, along with several other nearby parks. Emergency response teams issued a voluntary evacuation for more than 900 residents at the parks.
"I've lived here for 12 years and this has never happened," said Manuel Garcia, a resident at Duroville, whose home is surrounded by thick mud.
The floods left dangerous conditions, roads closed, but no one was injured
"There's been no rescues. We have been checking on motorists that are driving through the waters and making sure that they don't get stuck and the ones that are getting stuck we are helping them get out," said Visyak.
The flooding interrupted water and power service to those at the park. But despite all the trouble, many residents are staying put and cleaning up.
"We are going to try to clean it little by little because who's going to help us? There's nobody to help us," said Juan Paz.
