RANCHO MIRAGE - Firefighters were able to contain a fast-burning fire to one home in a Rancho Mirage neighborhood Friday afternoon.
Fire officials say the home was not occupied. The abandoned structure caught fire just before 2 p.m. at Clancy Lane and the 41500 block of Bob Hope Drive.
Thick smoke could be seen across the Coachella Valley for about an hour as firefighters battled to gain control of the blaze.
Half of the structure is completely destroyed along with 12 nearby palm trees, according to Riverside County Fire. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately 2 to 3 hours for salvage and overhaul.
No injuries were reported.
