Hundreds of Residents Wait Hours For Free Medical Clinic
THERMAL- Hundreds of valley residents got much needed medical and dental checkups for free in Thermal.
Eighteen-year-old Omar Lua and his father waited nearly six hours to see a doctor about Omar's right knee.
"It's difficult to support myself, because I feel a sharp pain in my knee," said Lua, who uses a cane to walk.
About 1,500 people waited in long lines to see dentists and doctors at the Desert Mirage High School gym-turned-medical clinic. The organization, The Flying Doctors, partnered with local medical professionals to put on the event. Among the several international locations The Flying Doctors visits, Coachella Valley is the only U.S. location the organization services. The doctors visit the valley twice a year, and organizers say the number of people showing up increases every time.
"We love to see it expand and we wanted it to expand and it's just a
great thing to know that the need here is being partially met by something we can do," said Dr. David Morgan, with The Flying Doctors.
