Known Gang Member Found Guilty of First Degree Murder

INDIO--The verdict is in for Emilio Manuel Avalos. Avalos was accused of killing a Marine Corporal, a teenager, and shooting a third victim. On Wednesday a jury decided his fate. It only took jurors about a half a day to reach a verdict.
Emilio Avalos is guilty on all counts, including first degree murder for the 2001 death of 20-year-old Marine Corporal Henry Lozano.
He was also found guilty of shooting two people in 1994. 17-year-old Jahi Collins was killed in the attack, his friend Bobby Wilson was paralyzed in the shooting rampage.
"Ten years and eight months, and it's a lifetime, forever to miss somebody that was so wonderful. He was a good boy," Henry Lozano's mother Donna Lozano said.
Donna Lozano's son, Marine Corporal Henry Lozano was killed back in 2001. The accused shooter, Emilio Avalos is guilty of first degree murder in that case.
Avalos was also found guilty for the 1994 shooting death of 17-year-old Jahi Collins and his friend Bobby Wilson. Collins died from the shooting--Wilson survived.
"It's kind of surreal, not really expecting it to happen and it happened," Jahi Collins' mother Glenda Collin's said. But it's still not over so I don't want to say anything else."
Jurors also found Avalos guilty of a special circumstance of lying in wait, making him eligible for the death penalty.
The trial now moves into the second phase. During the penalty phase jurors will decide between the death penalty and life in prison without parole.
The penalty phase of the trial is set to begin October 22nd.
