At the corner of Jefferson and Highway 111 there's a sign. It's mostly in Mandarin Chinese, but some English, that says CIIF Hotel Group, Victoria Center, EB 5, Restaurant, Hotel. It also gives a phone number. Our translation uncovers a major development could be on the horizon in Indio.

 

"What they're proposing to build is a 45,000 square foot hotel comprised of 82 rooms and 3 new restaurants," said Indio City Principal Management Analyst, Chris Escobedo. 

 

It's part of the California Investment Immigration Fund or EB 5 Visa, where foreign investors can get residency by investing in California projects. Locals say the project will help bring more people and more money to the valley.

 

"I think it would do good. Make people stay out here, look at the buildings, have more sales around stores," said resident Isaac Romero.

 

The Victoria Center Project is still in the early stages but city officials say it would create a significant number of jobs and increase Indio's economic base.
