Entering The School Zone: Rancho Mirage High School
RANCHO MIRAGE - "You Ask. We Investigate. Residents living in the area of the new Rancho Mirage High School, set to open next September, want to know how life will be different once their neighborhood enters the school zone. The new school has a football stadium, a 600 seat auditorium and will ultimately educate 2,000 students a year. The $150 million project is nearing its completion. Scheduled for a Fall 2013 opening, the 800 first year students will walk into a state of the art education center. This addition to the Palm Springs Unified School District is cutting edge in every way, incorporating the latest technology into it's design and educational structure. But in spite of years of public hearings, letters to nearby residents and dozens of clubhouse meetings, there are still some neighbors who feel they don't know what's going on and are not thrilled about the new 2,0000 student high school coming online. Residents are voicing concerns about noise from the school's football stadium, increased foot and vehicle traffic along side streets. As you stand near the intersection of Ramon and Da Vall Roads, you can see the school is built on what was 60 acres of empty desert. Any new construction will likely have plenty of supporters and detracters, but Palm Springs Unified School District and the City of Rancho Mirage believe they have done all they can to keep residents informed along the way and to address concerns. Palm Springs Unified School District says information about the new school is available on its website, www.psusd.com.
