RIVERSIDE COUNTY-- There are new numbers from the Registrar of Voters office in the race for the 36th Congressional District. There are still 164,000 ballots left to go through.

With 100% of the precincts reported, but not all ballots officially counted, Doctor Raul Ruiz is still holding the lead with 51% of the votes, while Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack has 49%.

After a long day of counting ballots, dozens at the Riverside County Registrar of Voters office, were dismissed from their duties. But with 100% of the precintcs already reported, what ballots are still being counted?

"We are processing the vote by mail ballots which includes, verifying signatures, opening envelops, and then running them through our ballot scanners," says Registrar of Voters, Kari Verjil.

After that, staff will review the provisional ballots. Those are from voters who went to the wrong polling locations. Those are always the last ballots that are reviewed and added into the canvas procedure.

But when it comes to the 36th Congressional District seat, many say they won't even need to turn to the provisional ballots to determine the winner. The Secretary of State does not list this race as a close race. The latest numbers in this race show Dr. Ruiz leading by 4, 679 votes, which is up by several hundred, from earlier numbers. New numbers are expected Friday evening around six.

Bono mack has yet to concede and therefore, the counting will continue, and the results of the race will remain undetermined until every last ballot is counted.
