Veterans Day Events
PALM DESERT - The Coachella Valley honors those who served their country with a series of special events and ceremonies planned around the valley marking Veterans Day.
Here is a list of some of the special Veterans Day events planned: - A Veterans Day ceremony will be held during the Rancho Mirage Art Affaire at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Whitewater Park, 71-560 San Jacinto Drive, Rancho Mirage. Contact: city, (760) 324-4511. - The Palm Springs Air Museum will hold a Veterans Day and 16th Birthday Celebration at 10 a.m. Sunday, featuring a tribute to Vietnam War veterans. Flight exhibitions, music, face-painting and other activities will be available. The museum will also unveil a repainted F4 Phantom II fighter jet. Admission is free for veterans. 745 N. Gene Autry Trail, Palm Springs. Contact: museum, (760) 778-6262. - Palm Desert will honor veterans at the Civic Center Park amphitheater at 11 a.m. Monday. The Heatwave Boys & Girls Club Jazz Band will play patriotic music. The park is at 73-510 Fred Waring Drive. Contact: organizers, (760) 346-0611, ext. 386. - The General Patton Memorial Museum will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Sunday, including a flyover, chili cookoff and World War II vehicle displays. The museum's Patton Award will honor Al Jolson, who entertained troops during World War II and the Korean War. Museum, 62-510 Chiriaco Road, Chiriaco Summit. Contact: museum, (760) 227-3483. - The Healing Field, a weeklong tribute to military personnel who died in Iraq and Afghanistan, will close with a ceremony at noon Sunday at Patriot Park, Date Palm and Dinah Shore drives, Cathedral City.
