COACHELLA VALLEY-- Hostess treats are flying off shelves here in the valley, after the company announced it was going out of business. KMIR6 News Anchor Thalia Hayden went searching for twinkies. After two hours of store hopping, she finally found a few packs at a local gas station.

With Hostess announcing it's closing, local store managers say it's been madness all day! The Hostess section in most stores is completely wiped out!

Because of increased labor costs and a trend toward healthier eating, Hostess filed for bankruptcy in January. Then, it's bakers union went on strike, causing the company to shut down. Thirty Hostess plants around the country closed immediately, and we're told much more will follow.

Hostess has been around since the 1930's. The company plans to sell it's assets and brand name, so people may be a bit hasty to think their favorite treats will be gone forever.
