INDIO- A chp officer killed in the line of duty is honored on the 25th anniversary of his death.

In a ceremony at the Indio CHP headquarters renaming the Date Palm Drive bridge on Interstate 10 after CHP officer Mark Taylor,  family and friends gathered to remembered the fallen officer. Taylor died after making a traffic stop in 1987, when an oncoming car struck him. He was just 28 years old, married, with a nine-year-old daughter.

"It means a lot that after all this time everyone still remembers," said Kristie Ramos, Taylor's daughter.

On the back of the sign, Taylor's family wrote him messages.

"Losing her daddy, losing her father, losing her hero, it left a hole in her heart and I know that no one else can fill it, but I believe that this is a part of healing that hole," said Brenda Taylor, Mark Taylor's widow, about their daughter Kristie.

To get the dedication in motion, it had to go through the California State Senate and Assembly for approval first. In total, 227 CHP officers have died in the line of duty.
