Canadian Job Fair Draws Hundreds
Hundreds of people wre in line by 9:00 a.m. in Indio for a jobs fair. The unusual part was they were lining up for construction jobs in British Columbia, Canada.
Signs promised up to 40,000 construction jobs, and the event drew job seekers not only from the Coachella Valley, but from as far away as Texas.
County Foriegn Trade Commissioner Tom Freeman said its a sign of the times.
"Most of the people that you see here today, have not worked or have been underemployed for the last five to six years, and it shows how badly they want to get back into construction trades."
With the Canadian Dollar stronger than the U.S. Dollar right now, it also mean higher wages. And many seemed willing to trade the desert heat for cold cash.
