Fire Destroys Mobile Home in Palm Desert
PALM DESERT--A fire ripped through a home on Cholla Lane in the Silver Spur Mobile Home Park in Palm Desert. It happened around 11:45 Thursday morning.
The fire ripped through the home. Neighbors say they saw the smoke, grabbed hoses and tried to put it out, but all they could do was watch as the flames destroyed the mobile home.
"It was like an inferno. The whole mobile home was melting. There were holes opening up like an aluminum can." Neighbor Cheryl Harrison said.
Cheryl Harrison watched as her neighbors home melted. Before fire crews arrived, Harrison ran door-to-door to make sure everyone was safe.
"One family was still asleep so I got them up and I turned on their hose for them and everything but it was engulfed pretty bad," Harrison said
Joan and her 88 -year-old mother live next door. They used hoses to try and protect their home, worried the flames would spread.
"It was scary. It was just really scary you know? It got to the point where our hoses weren't doing any good," next door neighbor Joan Hunt said.
Fire crews put out the flames within about 25 minutes, but the home is a total loss.
"I don't know what caused the fire today. I have no idea. He's not home," next door neighbor Fran Mcmahan said.
Luckily, no one was inside the home when the fire broke out, and no one was injured. Fire officials say the man who lived in the home is getting help from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is unknown and the investigation is on-going.
Investigators also say it doesn't look like there were any Christmas decorations or a Christmas tree in the home.
