Bomb Scare Closes Highway 111 for Hours

 Traffic on Highway 111 through Rancho Mirage is flowing normally tonight after the road was closed mid-day during a bomb scare.

Businesses were evacuated and traffic diverted after a car being examined at Desert European Motors had a suspicious amount of putty with wires attached to the gas tank.

Police cordned off Highway 111 from Bob Hope Drive to Country Club while a Sheriff's Bomb Disposal Unit from Riverside came to the desert to invetigate.

The putty on the gas tanks was determined to be a non-explosive sealant, and the are was declared safe by 3:30pm.
