Police arrested Bishop Thursday in a parking lot on campus. KMIR 6's Adrianna Weingold spoke with students who actually had class with Bishop. They say this arrest is a long time coming. 

 

Bishop is accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a 15-year-old boy. Police say the messages included harmful material intended to seduce the child.

 

I mean at first I thought he was just a normal teacher and then during the days he just started staring at all the guys, all the boys in class. He would like ask for their numbers and stuff, like student's numbers like all the time," anonymous Palm Springs High School students said.

 

The district wouldn't say much about Ronald Bishop but did tell us he's been an English teacher at Palm Springs High School for the past 7 or 8 years. Before that he taught at Nellie Coffman Middle School, but they wouldn't say what class or for how long.

 

The Principal at Palm Springs High School, Ricky Wright, isn't talking about the arrest.

 

The district issued this statement saying "Mr. Bishop is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.  We cannot comment any further, as this is a personnel matter."

 

Ronald Bishop faces at least two felony charges, for contacting or communicating with a minor to commit an offense and annoying or molesting children.

 

Ronald bishop is a resident of Indio. We tried to stop by his home, but couldn't get through the gates. He's scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, January 22.
