PALM DESERT - Hundreds of runners and walkers braved Saturday's wet and chilly temperatures, lacing up their running shoes for a good cause.

Palm Desert Charter Middle School (PDCMS) hosted its first ever 5K. This family fun event including chip timing featured two-time Ironman Champion Scott Tinley. Organizers say they expected 1,000 runners from around Southern California to participate.

Proceeds will be used to upgrade outdated technology at PDCMS.

Palm Desert Charter Middle School is home to approximately 1,340 sixth, seventh and eighth graders. The community of Palm Desert Charter Middle School collaborates to provide a safe nurturing environment in which students pursue academic excellence, environmental stewardship, and social accountability as global citizens.
