Tour Bus Operator Shutdown after 8 Killed
YUCAIPA - United States regulators have ordered the immediate shutdown of a tour bus operator involved in a Southern California crash that killed eight people earlier this week.
The federal motor carrier safety administration released a statement today stating the buses operated by Scapadas Magicas llC pose an imminent hazard to public safety. One of the company's buses was transporting passengers to Tijuana, Mexico on February 3rd when it slammed into a sedan, flipped and then smashed into a pickup and crashed on a road in the San Bernardino mountains.
Eight people were killed and dozens others were injured. Regulators found serious mechanical safety violations on the company's two other buses that were operating in the U.S. and they were immediately placed out of service. Inspectors also say the company has failed to have its vehicles regularly inspected and that its drivers were not properly vetted for qualifications.
