Pope Benedict Resigning
ITALY - N-B-C news has confirmed that Pope Benedict is resigning.
Benedict is the first pope to resign in modern history.
News came as a surprise out of the Vatican this morning.
The Vatican says 85-year-old Pope Benedict will resign on February 28th.
Benedict reportedly announced his decision during a meeting of Vatican Cardinals this morning, saying he didn't feel he was strong enough to carry on the job.
The last pope to resign was in 1415.
The move sets the stage for a conclave to elect a new leader of the Catholic Church.
