CATHEDRAL CITY-- With a unanimous vote, Cathedral City is now the second valley city to support same-sex marriage rights.  Palm Springs was the first city to pass this resolution, and with a vote of 3 to 0 Wednesday night, Cathedral City is now the second.  Council members say they hope other valley cities will follow suit.

But not all residents are happy about the councils decidsion to adopt a resolution that supports marriage equality and opposes Proposition 8. Some say the union of marriage should be limited to a man and woman.  But those who feel this way did not choose to voice their opinion at the meeting.  However, those in support of the resolution, did.

With 35% of Cathedral City residents being gay and lesbian, council members say they feel all residents should be treated equally.

As you may remeber, same-sex marriage was a hot button issue during November's election, and Mayor DeRosa almost lost her seat to her openly gay challenger, Chip Yarborough.  But tonight, for the first time since she took office, DeRosa let the public know where she stands on the issue.
