Quake Moves Some Valley Residents to Prep for Worst

PALM DESERT- Coachella Valley residents today are getting earthquake ready, after yesterday's 4.7 magnitude quake rattled a large part of Southern California.

Employees at Off the Grid Survival Supply Store report having more customers since the quake

"During a big earthquake gas is going to be shut off, electric is going to be shut off, it's not going to be like anything we've ever thought of before, or the possibility of happening in our world," said Dave from Off the Grid, who prefers we not use his last name.

The quake is a wake up call for some---but others admit the jolt hasn't moved them to do anything differently.

"I don't have tons of water stored and all that kind of stuff. I am just one of those type of people who fly by the seed of my butt," said Shannon Erousseau of Palm Desert.

  • Water—one gallon per person, per day (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)

  • Medications (7-day supply) and medical items

  • Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
