Marine Died During Twentynine Palms Training
TWENTYNINE PALMS - A Marine died during a training exercise at Twentynine Palms on Monday.
Pfc. Casey Holmes was based in Hawaii and was in Twentynine Palms Marine Combat Training Center for a month long training--- it involved everything from aircraft to infantry.
The 20-year-old died during some type of excerise, but at this time military officials will not confirm how exactly he was killed. They did say he was participating in "on the ground training"--- simulating a live war experience. Officials say this is the first time Holmes was particpating in the training excersise. Holmes, originally from Chico, enlisted in the Marines last year. According to military officials, Holmes' personal decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Officials say no other Marines were injuried in the deadly incident. The naval criminal investigative service is looking into the case.
