Local Reaction to New Pope
PALM SPRINGS--Can the new pope revamp the Vatican? Can he usher the church into the modern age? Questions are at the forefront of the conversation among parishioners in Palm Springs.
"All of society as well as people of faith share the same problems and the same challenges and we need to work together to resolve those, and I would certainly hope that this Holy Father would make that one of his priorities," Father David Foxen, Our Lady of Guadalupe said.
1.2 billion Catholics worldwide are counting on the new pope to unite Catholics across the globe. Many people we spoke with said issues like poverty and the sexual abuse scandals within the church are paramount for Pope Francis to address.
