Suspicious packages evacuate museum
PALM SPRINGS- Two suspicious packages were found this afternoon at the Palm Springs Art Museum and just a short time ago, Police declared the area safe but the museum is still closed. And unfortunately so because tonight, the museum was free from 4pm-8pm. Throughout the evening, folks came in droves to take advantage of the free admission only to be turned down at the door.
It was around 12:30 pm when employess at the museum discovered two suspicious packages; one inside and one outside the museum. They called the Palm Springs Police Deparment who agreed the packages were suspicious. They were told to evacuate the museum immediately.
“We were told to evacuate the building. We evacuated all the employees and any guests that were in the building”, says Marketing Director for the Museum Bob Bogard.
The Sheriff's Department used a robot to find out what was in the packages.
Officials tell KMIR that they found the contents of one of the boxes. They were a swiss army knife, an eraser and some plant seed. Initial reports from employees say they heard vibrating in one of the boxes which caused them to be suspicious. Police have yet to find anything in the contents to verify vibrating of any kind.
