COACHELLA VALLEY-- The race for the 36th Congressional District seat continues to heat up in the valley. Incumbant Mary Bono Mack's campaign had more up their sleeve when it comes to Dr. Raul Ruiz's college years.

A last minute news conference was called by Bono Macks camp on Thursday, releasing an audio recording of Dr. Raul Ruiz supporting convicted FBI killer, Leonard Peltier, at a rally in 1999. This speech is separate from Ruiz's 1997 arrest for his role in a violent protest. Both stories relating to the doctor's past have been released to the media by the Bono Mack campaign.

The Auga Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians also released a statement today, saying they're offended that Bono Mack described Ruiz's past protests as radical and anti-American.

Many viewers have asked why the Congresswoman was not at todays meeting. Our sources say she was in Florida, but we could not confirm that. We've also had emails into our newsroom asking how the Bono Mack campaign got the audio recording. Representatives say the speech originally aired on a Massachusetts radio show called Gender Talk, and was not edited.
